FC Fiorecittà have completed a surprise summer signing of Massimo Santoni from rivals Romero Sport for a extensive fee of Cr 20 million.
Santoni, who is regarded as one of the key members of Tellia's national team, becomes the second captain to leave in successive seasons at the capital club, having seen their previous captain Marko Schiavvi also leave for Xäiville Teflons last year. The 28 year old will be reunited with former Romero and national team manager Angelo Perrotta.
It is believed that most Fiorecitta fans welcome the move, as Perrotta looks to shape his new team. While fans are generally optimistic, many pundits are against the move and claims the Fiorecittà's move in the market has sparked concerns over the future of Tellian football, with Vecchiacittà and FCF appearing to nullify the remainder of the league competitively.
Speaking to former Tellian manager and captain Roberto Vincenzo, he claims that the Bianconeri and FCF are both playing stupid games with money and are damaging the youth players in Tellian footballer. He told the Tellian Gazzetta, "Romero and FCF both have the best academies in Tellia, yet the spending between FCF and Vecchiacitta is seriously damaging the future prospect of the nation, as well as nullifying the opposition of their closest opponents. While FCF and Vecchiacitta have strengthened, Romero has been severely weakened and appear to keep offloading their players in order to generate profits to continually develop their squad."
Reverting back to the topic of Santoni, Vincenzo nevertheless said it was a great signing for the 2013 runners up. "Santoni is the type of player that FCF have been missing. He's clearly a favourite of Perrotta, and he is brought in to play that deep-lying playmaker role everyone knows that he capable of from his Romero and Tellia performances. And from the overall perspective it seems that the manager is trying to bring in new faces."
It is expected to that the 28 year old will take the number 4 shirt, last worn by the retiring Ricardo Bonati.
